Private Public Gallery in Hudson, New York will present Here, Elsewhere, Kylie Heidenheimer’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. On view from November 29, 2025 until January 25, 2026, the show will comprise large, medium and small canvases. The exhibition is an unveiling of Heidenheimer’s recent abstract paintings. Akin to Martha Diamond using identifiable imagery to express the richness of paint, Heidenheimer creates marks and pours as means to point to something else. An interchangeability between the immediate and out-of-reach comes into being. This for Heidenheimer, is where possibilities emerge. As a young artist, Heidenheimer took note of how the sky in an Edward Hopper painting seemed to anchor the building façade beneath it. She later interwove such paradoxes in her own work, making it abstract. Nature and the urban have become at most, suggestions. Artist and writer Tom McGlynn recently noted that Heidenheimer's paintings "enact a process whereby they simultaneously deconstruct and reconstruct before one's eyes". Stephen Maine wrote earlier that “pictorial fact is implied rather than stated, tapping into the part of the viewer’s brain engaged with becoming rather than being”. These observations fit with senses of hovering, covering and revealing in the works. Via these means, Heidenheimer displaces and realigns certainties and the unknown.
